Harvard-Boston Aero Meet photographs, 1910.

Photographs and postcards of the Harvard-Boston Aero Meet in Squantum Mass., 3-13 Sept., 1910, the second aero meet to take place in the United States. The photographs, mostly reproductions, depict British aviator Claude Grahame-White and American inventor and aviator Wilbur Wright with their planes, as well as others who attended the Aero Meet; the original photographers are mostly unidentified. The postcards in this collection are of planes, aviators, and events at the Meet, taken and published by Arams' Studio, officicial photographer for the Aero Meet.

Wilbur Wright, born April 16, 1867 in Indiana, and his brother, Orville, were inventors of the airplane. The brothers were in the printing and bicycle business in Dayton before they became interested in solving the problems of powered flight. After a series of kite and glider experiments at Kitty Hawk, N.C., the brothers built and successfully flew the first heavier-than-air powered machine on Dec. 17, 1903.
